can someone tell me what this problem is? and how to fix it C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM#@\AUTOEXEC.NT. the system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and microsoft windows applications. choose 'close' to terminate the application. this is in a pop up window with close and ignore boxes below it.. several programs have given me this when trying to install. and the pop up says 16bit windows subsystem in the window title bar. any help would be greatly appreciated

Look under START/PROGRAMS/Startup and delete it from there if its there. Otherwise click START/RUN type in msconfig and look for Startup list it should be the end tab.If you see it listed there Uncheck the item. That doesnt sound right, your autoexec should not be running from windows/system directory anyway.

PIE can you give us a list at what should be on at startup? Theres no set list of things. Everyone has different devices that load different programs, drivers etc. Printers, scanners, webcams, zip drives etc etc. Now wether or not they are necessary is a different thing. You can always google the .exe file thats getting loaded and find out about it. Pie

I just unchecked everything like dal said now this comp starts up super fast. There's a part where you go to: Start Run msconfig General tab Uncheck load start up items mine is unchecked, might wanna confirm with dal or pie to see if this is good for ya first, mine is unchecked and works fine. I remember years ago i had to take my comp in cause it couldn't get it to boot up right and the tech's analogy was i had 2 programs in there that were like bullies therefor freezing my shit up, all he did was disable one of them and he made $75.00 off me for

By doing that you can disable your antivirus, anti-spyware, system functions and other necessary items. You have to uncheck the individual unneeded things from startup tab. Pie
